Mike and I spent most of day yesterday answering calls and emails from the media. Most of them wanted to portray out sport as dangerous and risk taking. It was exhaustingly stressing that it is more dangerous to drive to PIR then to race it. Abby Haight of the Oregonian wrote a nice article today on the front page of the Sports Page. I am sure that many of you, like me, are feeling very fragile right now. There is the immediate need to do something. I have asked the Board of Directors to open a bank account for Charles's 8 month old daughter, Anna. When this is done I will let all of you who do not live in the Portland area know where you can make donation. I have asked Jeff to also do something on Tuesday at PIR. I ask you now to come out to the velodrome on Saturday or Sunday and celebrate our sport and bring a contribution to this fund. Racing starts at 10 am for the morning session and 5 pm for the evening session. Dave Guetler, owner of River City Bicycles is bringing his band to play at 2:00 pm and Pizzacato will be providing eats. I know that I need your support and maybe you need mine also. Candi Murray |
