I got a phone call from the paper asking for my city, so I guess they'll print what I wrote, or else come for me in the night. I also got the form letter... As you probably can imagine, I have been inundated with e-mail the last few days so I’m sorry it has taken so long to get back to you. Typically I answer each electronic missive sent to me. However there are so many lately, the only way to acknowledge each is by this standard response. Please know that between trying to write my four columns and other news stories this week, I have taken the time to read your e-mail and all the others. You probably will not be surprised to learn most readers who have taken the time to write disagree with my position. J Alas, that is one of the occupational hazards of being a snotty burned-out columnist. You may want to compose a thoughtful letter about how you feel and send it as a letter to the editor at the Trib. To get directions how to send it, please go to: www.triblive.com Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts and feelings with me. But you don't really make sense. On one hand you are saying that it is correct because we are saving the environment etc etc. I just wish you would try to commute to work ONE WEEK. Try and see what it is like to be completely naked to the environment. Wave at traffic as you cross by the bike bridge that travels right over the freeway while the cars sit and wait in traffic at 7:30 AM in the morning. Get to work refreshed and exhilarated and alive and no need for your daily dose of coffee. Instead eat your yogurt, banana, bagel that you prepared to pack in your sturdy backpack. Witness the sunrise, the sunset and wave at the friendly bike commuters that you meet on opposite sides of the road or that you choose to race with to work(letting them draft your wheel to work). Make some new friends that care about not polluting the earth and seem so fit and friendly and darn it HAPPY too. You are failing to see that bikes are a bare necessity today and we do pay taxes and fees on the roads and our car insurance as well. My Audi sits in my garage 5 days a week while I CHOOSE to bike to work because it feels good and DRIVING is a luxury for me. When it is raining and cold and dark in the winter time I cherish my car sometimes to have the convenience of a radio, heat and warm dry air after work while I drive to the grocery store or the gym. Biking to work keeps me grounded and humble to appreciate my true blessings of health and happiness. Please be careful and SEE me and don't be a person of road rage against harmless cyclists.
