I'm looking for a 55-56cm road bike for a friend who whats to get into cycling. Its would be a starter bike but something that could eventually do some intro racing. Fully built I don't want to part it out. Thanks!

$25: Chrome steel. 26.0 clamp. Same as new. Was mounted, but only ridden three times. No marks, no scuffs. I have a couple of Ritchey 26.0 stems if interested too. Both 120mm, one is a +/- 6 degree the other is a +/-17 degree.

$500/obo. The bike is beautiful. A new Litespeed is 4 or 5 times this much and they don't make this polished finish anymore. It shines like a mirror!
This is my wife's bike. We parted it out for my son's bike last year, and now just the lonely frameset remains. It hasn't seen use in 4 or 5 years. It needs a home that will put it to use. It comes with a Trek Carbon fork.
I have some a matching American classic post, and miscellaneous stems (short and long), saddles (men's and women's), etc. if you need those too, we can negotiate.

All components are Shimano Ultegra 10 (6600)
- Crankset, 172.5, 53x39
- Front and rear derailleurs
- Brake calipers
- Shift/brake levers
Light use, maybe 500 miles on them. Prefer selling as a group for $640

Need a new vacuum cleaner. The roommate moved out and the vacuum went with. Not looking for fancy. Not looking for junk. Let me know if you have something.

fyi all:
I had a productive conversation over the phone with interim Police
Chief Sandi Baxter on Friday.
She was very receptive to comments from myself and others that had
reached her regarding the Bend Bulletin article on bike safety and
the comments made by Sgt. Koester. She very much regretted that what
Sgt. Koester meant, and what he ended up saying didn't quite end up
being the same thing.
As a result of this incident, they are making sure that individuals
who make statements to the media, do so thoughtfully and present a
complete picture of the issue, whatever it may be, without blaming
any particular group.
She is also checking with the public works dept. on the status of
bike lane striping (in response to the letter to the Source by Scott
Moyer) to make sure that bike lanes are clearly marked. (Scott, if
you read this, Chief Baxter would like to contact you personally and
address your concerns)
I'm going to suggest to her that a letter of clarification from the
police dept. to the Bulletin would go a long way with the public and
clear up any unintended messages.
I am cautiously optimistic that we can turn the tide of negative
perceptions about the cycling community, now that we have a dialog
going, and many of us are working to improve our own image by
following the rules of the road.
Thanks to Jim Clinton and Peter Gramlich on the Bend City council,
and City Manger Eric King for being responsive to this issue. And
thanks to Chief Baxter for reaching out and contacting me to discuss
the issue.

I've never been so well-fed apres' race before till I got the chance to ride Return on the Jedi.
Thanks to Pistis Ministries for a very well-run & supported race. THe volunteers were fun, friendly and uber helpful. The course was fun and fast. I'm definitely looking forward to next year and maybe even participating in the Short Track & Super D as well.
I hope everyone who incurred an injury has a speedy recovery and hope to see you at State Games XC!

Great approach, Eric.
I live in Vancouver, but work several days a month in Bend, and I try to ride there before I drive back as often as I can. I have found Bend to be a very bike friendly community. Drivers seem pretty tolerant and I have often had Bend police wave back to me, as I wave (nicely...) while riding.
I think this is the kind of healthy solution oriented approach that could have a real impact to a situation that needs it. When two groups become more and more polarized by something like this, it can get turn ugly quickly. And then, no one wins. Here is a big THANK YOU for stepping up to help turn it in a positive direction.

Subject: [OBRA Chat] Short Track #2 tonight - some updates
To: obra@list.obra.org
Message-ID:
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8
Greetings OBRA racers!
Lat Monday we kicked off the 4th edition of the Portland MTB Short Track Series with a record turn-out of close to 300 racers. Here are some important updates ahead of tonight's second evening of short track racing at PIR.
1) Results of race #1
The results of last Monday's races - including results for Sport Men - have been posted at www.portlandracing.com and on the OBRA Results site. We plan to finalize the results by end of day today, so if you still have any corrections, please email them to me today.
2) Sing-In & Race plates - PLEASE READ!
A reminder that everyone has to sign in at registration before their race. Even if you have pre-registered for your race. Also, if you raced last week, make sure to bring your race plate, which you will use for all your races throughout the series. Further, make sure your race plate is readable (NOT folded or tucked behind your brake and shifter cables) and securely attached (please use the hole at the bottom of the plate to prevent your plate from flipping over during the race). And please be gentle on the planet and re-use the twisty ties.
3) Track Crossing - IMPORTANT SAFETY MESSAGE!
On Monday nights between 5:30pm and 8pm there are ongoing road bike races on the race track. Last week, we received some complaints about some folks crossing the track in a careless fashion in front of oncoming road racers. Not cool and flat out dangerous! So here is another reminder to exercise extreme caution when crossing the track and at all times to follow the directions of the crossing marshals, whether you are on your way in our out. Always look both ways and don't cross the track when oncoming road racers are in sight!
4) Race video and photos!
Check out the video race report that Scott Barker made of the first race at www.portlandracing.com. There are also a ton of great photos of last week's races posted at OregonVelo.com.
5) Queen of the Night
Angela Koch has won our first Queen of the Night trophy. Her name was drawn among all women racers. Angela wins a $75 gift certificate, donated by our Women's Sponsor Bike 'N Hike! Each week another woman racer will get a chance to win our Queen of the Night trophy, so keep coming back girls!
That's it. Hope to see you tonight for another fun evening of short track racing!
Cheers!
~Kris

Dan, Palmer mill rd is hardpack dirt. I wouldn't really call it
gravel. The surface is a little loose in places but definitely ridable
on 23c tires. Just don't bring the silly thin ones. I've ridden it
once a couple of months ago using a 39 x 25 and it was hard. "Back in
the Day" we only used 23's !?!?!?! Damn Legs.

I lost my powerTap computer on my way into work this morning. I ride up
Springwater from Sellwood, across the Hawthorn Bridge, take a right on 2nd,
a left on Morrison and then go to my work on 6th and Alder. I am fairly sure
it is lost forever, but if you happened to pick it up or see it, please let

Hello,
I am signed up for the Marin Century in San Rafael California and was wondering if anyone would like to carpool. I also have a room for fri, sat, and sunday nights if we decide we are OK with that. (2 queen beds)
I have done this ride before and it is great. I would want to drive down friday and ride saturday. We could come back either sunday or stay and play in SFO sunday and return monday.
Reply offlist if intrested.
Thanks

On iffy-paved roads, climbing is easier on the tires, less momentous
impact on foreign objects than descending.
