There is always a different way to do something, I can't say I am favor of changing or leaving it alone. I had seen this thread on RBR, http://forums.roadbikereview.com/showthread.php?t=45728&highlight=USCF and wondered when OBRA would be bringing this up. Isn't this something that needs to be petioned for at the annual board meeting and voted on? Richard John F. Wilson wrote: Mike, My thoughts..... 1. We have huge fields in the Northwest and need to make sure our category system helps balance category size vs create bigger problems. Not sure if the 1-4 system will be better or not. 2. Every year there are e-mail threads whining & complaining about sand bagging in Cross. I think doing away with self selection and establishing criteria for categorization is a good thing. Don't necessarily need the 1-4 system to do that. 3. I want to continue to see age graded categories in addition to skill categories. I'll be working hard as a 48 year old in the 35+ A's next year and I am looking forward to that, but I am also starting to think about the 50+ category (I might be crazy, but I am looking forward to racing against Zimblman, Lucas, Yenne, Leet, etc and tip my hat to the guy's that can beat me at my own age). I know what is going to happen though. When I turn 50, OBRA will decide to shift to a 45+ age break ! It would be nice to see an age graded system we can stick with for a while ! Thanks for the great work. Bike racing in Oregon is fantastic. These are self selected categories. USCF is going to start to categorize riders for cyclocross into categories 1 through 4. Is there interest in maintaining reciprocity between OBRA and USCF categories for cyclocross similar to what we currently do for road and track categorization? If we do this it will require some negotiation with USAC. It will also likely require that we swallow their system whole; i.e. change the categories to 1 through 4, have criteria for categorization rather than have it be self selected, etc. Let us know what you think.
