I agree with Jeff. Oregon puts out so many great cyclocross racers that it would be nice to make it easier for them to cross over to USCF categories. But there are some downfalls to that may take a toll on parctipation. Reason why to make the same: 1. Benefits riders that want to also compete nationally and in internationally. Right now they may have to race more outside the state to get enough points or however it work. This would allow them to earn points here and therefore race more here. 2. The rules may help with our sandbagging problem. 3. Rules may help evenly ditrubite the field size. Reason why not to make the same: 1. There is a % of people that race at times of day that work for them. There are some people that race in higher groups because they can't make the 9:00 or 10:00 start times, and there are some that race earlier because they can't take time out in the middle of the afternoon. Making it so that they race their time would probablly make it so they don't race. 2. Don't fix what isn't broken. Althought I am not a fan of this way of thinking there are some things to concider. What makes our numbers so huge and USCF not. Do they have too many rules? Do we just put on cool events? We need to make sure we use what they are doing right, not what they are doing wrong. Somethings to think about -------------- Original message -------------- I think that's a great idea. There was so much discussion about sandbagging this year that a formal system for selecting categories makes sense. Maintaining reciprocity between USCF and OBRA is also a good idea for those of us who occasionally travel to other states to race. Jeff Fuchs Bend, OR mike.m-@obra.org wrote: Currently OBRA categorizes riders for cyclocross in three groups; A, B and C. These are self selected categories. USCF is going to start to categorize riders for cyclocross into categories 1 through 4. Is there interest in maintaining reciprocity between OBRA and USCF categories for cyclocross similar to what we currently do for road and track categorization? If we do this it will require some negotiation with USAC. It will also likely require that we swallow their system whole; i.e. change the categories to 1 through 4, have criteria for categorization rather than have it be self selected, etc. Let us know what you think.
