I like the simplicity of our system, A,B,C. It's been that way for a long time. I'm curious to hear the motivation behind the proposed change. What is the objective? When you combine the different age/sex categories, singlespeed, and beginners, that's a lot of different groups. Suddenly, we're approaching the same number as mountain bike has. I don't think, with the total number of racers that we have, that there would be any more room for more races in a single day. So, would it be something like "A" (pro-1-2), "B" (3), and "C" (4-5)? Same # of races happening, just "re-labelled"? What is the proposed upgrade process? I wonder if the proposed change would simplify it somewhat for racing at the national championship events. That way, there would possibly be a smaller "pro" level group racing for the title, w/o so much pack fodder (110+ riders). The pack fodder riders would be racing against competitors of similar ability level for the "top amateur" championships. You'd actually have to qualify to compete at these levels. I like that idea. None of this really matters to OBRA. But at the same time, we are spitting out some of the best riders in the nation, who are also competing at USAC/International events. Chris mike.m-@obra.org wrote: Currently OBRA categorizes riders for cyclocross in three groups; A, B and C. These are self selected categories. USCF is going to start to categorize riders for cyclocross into categories 1 through 4. Is there interest in maintaining reciprocity between OBRA and USCF categories for cyclocross similar to what we currently do for road and track categorization? If we do this it will require some negotiation with USAC. It will also likely require that we swallow their system whole; i.e. change the categories to 1 through 4, have criteria for categorization rather than have it be self selected, etc. Let us know what you think.
