Might think twice before running after the next meth tweaker that steals

your bike!

This is getting ridiculous.

Man arrested after shots fired in bicycle theft

The Lane County Sheriff's Office arrested a man Monday night after he
allegedly stole a bicycle then fired a gun toward its owner, who had
chased him on foot.

The incident began about 9:30 p.m. when a man stole an unlocked bike
from outside the Dari-Mart store at the corner of River Road and
Irvington Drive, said Sgt. Jon Campbell.

The bike's owner, who identified himself to The Register-Guard only as
"Joe," then chased the man. The man stopped and put down the bike. The
man then ran back toward the bike's owner, who said the alleged bike
thief told him, "What are you going to do about it? What are you going
to do now?" and pointed a gun toward him.

Campbell already was in the area on a traffic stop and said he heard
shots fired.

The suspect ran into a house on Anchor Street. He was arrested on Anchor

Street about 10 p.m. without incident, Campbell said. The sheriff's
office did not release the names of either the victim or the suspect.

The sheriff's office recovered the gun. Campbell said the man has not
been charged yet. He most likely faces menacing and other charges. No
one was injured.

Eugene police assisted during the incident. The investigation was
continuing late Monday.
