Great race, David (and Dave). Classic edition this year, too, with the
weather. Just glad I couldn't make the front group on that day....
Keep it up, look forward to next year.

I would say, “The smoke has barely cleared from the 2001 competition,”
but it’s more like, “The roads have dried...and are probably wet
again!”   Our March 25 race has entered into the record books.   I
always hope for some wind, and “token” rain shower perhaps, but this
year, during the morning races anyway, it was a fairly brutal test of
rider and bicycle. As I drove down I-5 at 7:00 a.m., the sun brightly
beamed warmth in its 3-hour window, teasing clouds and rain from the
south to appear precisely at the 10:00 for the start of the Pro/1/2
70+miler and the Cat 3's and Cat 4/5's swim.

Lest I sound disappointed, let me paint the bright side! Our staging
facilities at Oak Park Farms, courtesy the Coon Family, were better than
ever, with parking on the ultra smooth concrete, and shelter in the
super-huge “garages” in the side of the grass seed storage building
providing a fine registration area and a party-like atmosphere for prize
presentation AND consuming vast quantities of Sarah’s cake and Nancy’s
Yogurt Drink (the cake being one of the main reasons some attend this
race...).

The Oregon Bicycle Race Association’s truck with all the essential
supplies (video camera, road signage, radios, etc.) now has a very fine
tent-shelter which rolls out from the truck’s side, so Candi Murry,
Nancy Magnus, Shelly Peterson, Terri Camp and crew had a cozy spot right
next to the finish line to keep tabs officially.

David Beede, PoC’s main organizer, gave racers final instructions, and
sent each group out with lead and follow cars. He’d done his homework
well, and the day went smoothly, but the real heroes were the corner
marshals, who were out in the weather longer than any racer!

Let's do it again in 2002 - thanks for helping keep this neat event on
the Oregon bicycle racing calendar!
