I am in the process of putting together the signs that are displayed at the velodrome for the season. If you or anyone you know or work for would be interested in displaying a sign there, please let me know. Time is important since the season is about to start and I need some time to get the signs produced. The details are below. Mike Murray 4318 SE 8th Ct. Gresham, OR 97080-1862 Phone: (503) 661-5874 Fax: (503) 667-6220 E-mail: mmur-@teleport.com Alpenrose Velodrome offers sponsors the opportunity to have two types of signs displayed at the velodrome: Fence Signs - These signs are 3 feet by 8 feet. They are done on high quality wooden sign board. The signs are mounted on the track fence on the back stretch and are easily visible from the spectator stands. The cost for display of Fence Signs for the 2001 season will be $500 per sign. Record Board Signs - These signs are 12 inches by 18 inches. They are mounted on the record board at the entrance to the velodrome. The cost for display of Record Board Signs for the 2001 season will be $200 per sign. The cost for the signs covers the production of the sign which we make according to your design specifications. The signs are put up prior to the first racing event in April and will remain there through the last event in September or later for the cyclocross events at the velodrome in the fall. The signs are visible during all racing events, during training sessions and whenever people see the velodrome. This means that your signs will be seen 7 days per week, throughout the summer cycling season. The cost of sign display can be paid in product or trade-out in many cases. This year looks to be a break through year for track racing in the US. Our premier event for this season will be the Alpenrose Challenge, July 27 through the 29. The American Track racing Association, an organization of track managers, has developed a nation wide series of races titled the American Velodrome Challenge. These events will be used by USA Cycling as selection events to determine which racers qualify to ride international races for the US team. The Alpenrose Challenge will be one of the stops in this series. This is our third year for this event and it remains the largest prize list for a track cycling event in North America for 2001. The prize list and the fact that the races will be used for selection purposes will make the draw for elite level athletes even greater. We are currently negotiating with Marty Nothstein, the Olympic Gold Medal winner in the sprints in Sydney. We will be endeavoring to attract media attention to this event to match the level of competition. Your signs will be displayed at this event. Other events for 2001 include; -The Alpenrose Six Day, the only six day race in North America -Thursday evening race series, April through September -Friday evening race series May through August -State Championships are held for all age groups and for team racing -Oregon State Games In total there are more than 50 days of racing scheduled at Alpenrose for 2001. There are 60 plus formal training or instructional days. We have a developmental program to introduce riders to the velodrome. Some of these riders are established road or mountain bike competitors but many are new to the sport entirely. There will be weekly training/instructional sessions on Wednesdays, April through September. We have a program to rent race quality bicycles to riders taking these classes and competing in events. Regular training sessions are conducted at the velodrome by several of the local cycling teams. Our competitive events have been drawing 50 plus riders per session. Spectator admission is free. The permanent seating has been expanded to hold 600. Often this seating is at capacity. Riders use the velodrome for training on a daily basis. In addition the velodrome is viewed by people attending other events at the facility. The velodrome is located in a park that is operated by the Alpenrose Dairy and is open to the public. In addition to the velodrome there are softball diamonds, picnic grounds, a rodeo stadium, quarter midget car racing track, amusement park and BMX track. |
