The recall of the road brake cables is being conducted in conjunction with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, which is monitoring the recall effort for effectiveness. Tidbits from a second reader: fyi - The Chain Reaction web site has photos to help you identify the defective cables: http://www.chainreaction.com/recallshimanocable.htm More tidbits from another reader: Turns out, the easiest way to see the cable end: 1) take the front wheel off (like you're about to put your bike into your trunk to drive to the ride start) 2) Squeeze the lever for the front brake. Without the wheel stopping it, the brake caliper goes quite a ways IN. 3) Grab the brake caliper with your spare hand and squeez it all the way in. Then release the pressure on the lever slightly so the cable goes slack... In my case it shot out from the socket of the lever! 4) You need a third hand to grab the cable end so you can look at it closely for those stamped letters. I found "BK" stamped on one side so I now know mine is NOT defective!!! Mike Damon President, Reno Wheelmen spo-@charter.net Please visit our website at: <http://www.renowheelmen.org/> |
