I had my 1999 Colnago C40 over at Sellwood Cycles a couple of weeks ago when Eric noticed some flaking in the paint at the rear dropouts. It turns out that the epoxy that bonds the dropouts to the seat stays is failing. After learning that Colnago wants $1300 to repair the frame, I checked around and found a shop in Philadelphia that gave me an estimate of $120 to $140 to reglue the stays. I've also been told that any frame builder with a jig would have no trouble repairing the frame. Problem is, the frame is a little big for me, and I was thinking of selling it anyway. So, if anyone in OBRA Land knows a good frame builder, and wants an inexpensive Colnago, send me an email. The frame is a 56. According to Colnago, the seat tube should measure 54 ctc, and the top tube 55. I think the seat tube is closer to a 55 ctc. I'd like $500 for the frame, as is, but feel free to make me an offer. Its in good shape, other than the dropout glue. There is some cable wear on the head tube, and maybe a couple of other knicks in the paint, but nothing else. It probably has a total of about 3000 miles on it, and has never been crashed. Let me know if interested. I'll try to get some pictures together next week. -Steven Mullen. |
