Subject: No big box store at the Burnside Bridgehead
Date: 12/21/2004 04:47 AM
From: Joel Shapiro

Help stop the proposal to put a Home Depot at the East Burnside
Bridgehead. This project would be bad for cycling and bad for small
businesses on the East side. A much better proposal is the "Beam
Development" option, which includes residential and small business uses.

Take action (follow the Onward Oregon link) by sending a message to City
Commision and PDC members. It's easy to do -- I've already received a
number of responses from the members.

As the Onward Oregon page says: "Walking/biking distance to downtown,
and inner SE jobs, means that this should be sidewalk-friendly with lots
of foot traffic. Big-box home improvement stores are nearly 100%
automobile-centered. Who walks to Home Depot during lunch for a 2x4?
You always drive there."
