Hey everybody, I just wanted to put out a little follow-up to my road rage incident I sent out the other day. I filed a report with the State Police. He took my statement and asked me what I wanted to sew happen. I told him I would like for this to be noted on this guys driving record so in case he's done it before or he does it again, they will start to stack up and maybe his insurance will go up. But a trend will be noted in his patterns. I also told the officer I would like him to get either a phone call or visit from an officer and let him know he's been found out and what he's doing is dangerous. By the way, the guy didn't own up to any of it. Big surprise huh? What an Ass! Then I also decided to write him a letter myself and include a copy of the Oregon Drivers MAnual. SInce I'm sure he hasn't seen since he was 16. I encouraged him not to take my word for it. "Why don't you call your insurance company and ask them what their thoughts are about one of their policy holders displaying those kind of aggressive and menacing driving practices are." In my letter I told him we're all people with lives and families and kids, wives, mothers and fathers, etc... just like he is. And no time delay is worth killing somebody over. I also mentioned to him that he is driving around a car (and a car that suggests that he is fairly affluent-with alot to lose)with a license plate for all to see. The internet is a powerful tool and it did not take long for me to find out who he is and where he lived. And as the officer told me (many times over)that I don't know what kind of nut-case I might be dealing with. I too pointed out to him, since it is so easy to find out where he lived, he might want to be a little more thoughtful next time about who he tries to run over. He might get a lot more than a letter. The last thing I said was that Portland is a city that is ripe with a huge cycling community that is pretty tight and willing to help each other out with all sorts of profesionals willing to give advise in such a situation. I'm sure he's not going to go out and buy a road bike now and start commuting, but I just wanted to let him know I have rights and I know what they are, he is not anonymous, and by behaving that way he is possibly opening himself up for alot of potential grief and heartache (not to mention financial loss). Thanks Brothers and sisters! I had one idea for such a situation like this: What if whenever an incident that was severe enough (not just getting flipped off or "nice spandex fag" yelled at you)the drivers address was sent to the OBRA group and we all bombarded that person with postcards with simple messages reminding them of the laws, etc....
