Ok I have read most, if not all of the comments and have not seen what really needs to be done in this instance and countless other incidents on Skyline. I like biking on Skyline and I like driving on Skyline, with no shoulders and multiple blind corners the two just do not go together very well. I really believe that bike lanes should be installed from Skyline Blvd. & Hwy. 26 to the Cornelius Pass intersection (or at least to Germantown)! Yes I understand the expense of creating around 14 miles of bike lanes, but with the amount of bike traffic and the number of arrogant drivers (especially with expansion of housing development near Skyline & Thompson) it’s a necessity. My argument is this from a scenic beauty standpoint and a great place to get a quality workout standpoint Skyline Blvd. is one of the best places to ride in the Portland Metropolitan Area, and with the number of cyclist that use Skyline on a daily basis it does not make sense for this road not to have bike lanes. With US Government grants, activity based corporations like Intel, Nike, Columbia Sportswear, Adidas and the Oregon Tourism Association (Which uses biking on Skyline Blvd. as a tourist activity in the Portland area) we should be able to find the necessary funds to make this happen. If not maybe we should make developers pay to install bike lanes before they can receive permits to build the next hillside estates off of Skyline. Let me ask everyone how often do you see or pass recreational riders with suspect bike handling skills riding on Skyline? I see plenty and I worry for their safety! Chris is lucky he had the skills to prevent a fall/injuries, but what would happen or has to riders with suspect skills. How many times have you almost been hit by an automobile while concentrating on getting over that steep rise? I suspect that happens more often then we are willing to admit!
