Subject: Missed Cycle Oregon? (September Ride)
Date: 08/30/2004 04:20 AM
From: .David.Auker.

This is coming up soon (same week as Cycle Oregon). This re-posting
probably too late to be of any use, but maybe someone out there is
"foot-loose and fancy-free" enough to make last-minute vacation plans!
Car-pooling from Portland to the Sierra is an option...

Thanks for reading, David

Here's a 7-day ride in California's Sierra Mountains. Awesome riding,
awesome time of year to roll out some miles! -David

"The second Sierra Supper Tour begins with dinner on Saturday, September
11th, and concludes at the end of the day's ride a week later on Saturday
September 18th. Seven suppers and seven days of riding and camping through
the nooks and crannies of the central Sierra Nevada Mountains are in store
for one and all.
As in last year's tour the route will transverse Sonora Pass and Ebbetts
Pass, two of the prettiest and steepest passes in the Sierras. Byron will
again be transporting riders and gear throughout the tour. Sarah Auker will
be providing the suppers that cyclists rave about.
This year's ride features two new changes: a different configuration of the
basic route, and the option of an "adventure" route on most days adding more
 miles, harder terrain or both.

Here is the itinerary:
Saturday Sept. 11th: Meet at Marble Quarry R.V. Park, Columbia, CA.
Supper at 6 P.M.
Day 1: Columbia to Cherry Lake, 55 miles or 95 miles.
Day 2: Cherry Lake to Dardanelle, 80 miles;
Adventure route has two alternate off-road connectors and
somewhat less mileage.
Day 3: Dardanelle to Grover Hot Springs over Sonora and Monitor
passes, 65miles
Adding an out and back to Ebbetts Pass, 85miles
Or Add the Sweetwater loop, 135miles.
Day 4: Layover day: Lake Tahoe loop, 60miles
Or an out and back to Alpine Lake over Ebbetts Pass and Pacific
Grade, 70miles.
Day 5: Grover Hot Springs to Silver Lake (over Old Meyer's Grade/Echo
Summit), 60miles
Adventure route TBD
Day 6: Silver Lake to Indian Grinding Rock State Park, 54 miles
Adventure route TBD.
Day 7: (Sat. Sept. 18th) IGR SP to Columbia, 70 miles.
445 miles to 600 miles plus. Great food, lots for fine scenery, and a
"great group of people". Sarah, Byron and I hope you can make it.
We can comfortably accommodate 35 riders, so get your registration in
early before this year's Sierra Supper Tour fills up.
Cost is $300. Round trip transportation between Concord and Columbia
via Byron's beloved bus is available at a small extra charge. Parking for
the week is available at the Marble Quarry camp for $ 3.00 per day.
