I'm still on the mailing lists from Boston, where I lived before moving here. The information below is from one of the lists. There is a memorial ride Saturday, Sept 23rd @ 8:30am; details are on http://www.massbike.org/ . In addition, the Boston papers have been covering the story. These URLs were provided: http://www.boston.com/news/daily/17/cyclist.htm http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/262/nation/Cyclist_killed_in_Arlington_race+.shtml http://www.bostonherald.com/news/local_regional/bike09182000.htm http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/263/sports/Cause_of_fatal_cycling_crash_still_unclear+.shtml http://www.bostonherald.com/news/local_regional/cycl09192000.htm For those of you who know the area, the crash was at the intersection of Highland and Gray Streets in Arlington Heights. Online memorials to Nicole Reinhart are multiplying faster than either I or the Arlington town webmaster can keep track of them. It is truly touching to see people use the Web in this way. Her life and her death have profoundly affected people all over the US and beyond. http://www.bike.com/features/headlines/articles/2000-9-18_b.html is a very emotional, moving account by a friend of hers who watched the race (though not the crash). It has several photos of her, and of her Saturn teammates racing through Arlington. http://www.velospeed.com/ links to several memorial pages and e-mail messages. http://www.velospeed.com/nicole_tribute.htm contains reflections from her friends and fans. http://www.mcall.com/html/frontpage/c_pg001blockus.htm and http://www.mcall.com/html/columns/cpc/b_pg001_e55pinnacle.htm . are two more columns from her hometown newspaper, the Morning Call of Allentown, Pennsylvania. Many additional messages from those who knew her, and those who didn't, have been added to http://www.cyclingnews.com/results/2000/sep00/sep18newsa.shtml over the past day. |
