HI, OBRA!

Welcome New Years Day '04 with 110 miles! This is starting to fill up, so if you want to go, respond now! Contact Bill at 415-269-0591 or cfcy-@yahoo.com

This is a good opportunity for a decent mileage dosage to start 2004 (minimum: 460 miles/8 days). It's a long drive from Oregon (a LONG day), but doable. One "big" problem is trying to find enough time and energy to do some hiking in addition to the riding, because those side-canyons are pure magic.

Hope you will consider attending! Thanks for reading, David

New Years 2004

Death Valley Supper Camp

Friday December 26th to Saturday January 3rd

Furnace Creek Group Campground
Furnace Creek, CA

Join David and Sarah Auker, Byron Feldhake, and Bill Dunn for 8 days of cycling, hiking, and camping in Death Valley National Park. This will be a great way to top off your year's mileage tank, transition into 2004, and explore one of our grand National Parks. We will have suggested rides each day, including some mountain biking and hiking options. Swimming at Furnace Creek Ranch is another possible option. Showers are available there for a $2.00 charge. At night there will be Ranger talks, scrabble, go (an ancient Chinese board game), star gazing, and tall tales of cycling prowess. Bring your bike lights; if we think it's safe, we might do a night ride or two.
The cycling should be excellent with lots of gently rolling terrain on the valley floor, and good climbs to work out on into and out of the valley. We'll have a general aim to average 50 miles/day, although multiple centuries are a possibility. The weather is likely to be sunny and warm in the day and cool at night.

We are planning on expanding the traditional ST fare. In addition to our beloved oats and coffee (available on early days) we will plan on breakfasts, alternately eggs and potatoes, and then pancakes. Light lunch fare, after ride snacks and sodas, and - of course! - a delicious dinner. It will be up to you to ride enough not to gain weight!

There is a limit of 35 riders. David has spilled the beans, so-to-speak, and told his friends in the Oregon Bicycle Race Association about the camp, and there has been some early interest.

Byron will drive the bus from Concord if enough riders want to go with him. There will be a small extra charge. Contact him at 925-682-9233. For other questions contact Bill at 415-269-0591 or cfcy-@yahoo.com See you there!

Cost is $300 for 7-8 days.
