Subject: Road update for the hillclimb
Date: 08/29/2000 12:18 AM

Mike and I spent the morning up at Timberline making sure that the course
has been swept and cleaned up.

If you haven't done this event before. You park at the rest stop in
Government Camp. If the weather is iffy I'd strongly suggest that you have
someone drive the car to the top or park at the top, wear warm clothes down
to the start and then ride up to the car.

The course is NOT on the main Tmberline road. West Leg road is the old
Timberline Highway and is actually the Blossom Ski Run for
Timberline. There is a sign that says do not enter between the rest stop
and Timberline Road. We will start just 1 block from Hwy 26 up on West Leg
Road. The road is old, but in pretty good condition, there is some pine
needles and scattered gravel but no large deposits to worry about. All but
1 K is on West leg Road. When it meets the Timberline access road up a the
top it does a slight downhill, a very sharp left hand turn and then we ride
up in reverse direction to the day lodge. This last K is the steepest part
of the course.

There is no riding on the course after 9:30 and if you want to descend you
must do so on the much steeper TimberlineRoad. Timberline Lodge is having
a craft Fair so if you wanted to remain up in the area it sounds like that
would be fun.

It is only Tuesday but the forecast currently is iffy.
