Subject: Mt Hood- Cooper Spur Circuit Road Race - Friday May 30
Date: 05/29/2003 02:47 AM
From: Candi Murray/Oregon Bicycle Racing Assn

Simple but brutal. This stage will be the first test of the riders' fitness
and endurance. The race will start and end at Cooper Spur Mountain Resort.
The start of the race will consist of a steady descent on Cooper Spur Road
for approximately 10 miles before joining Baseline. Once on baseline the
riders will cross over on flat roads to highway 35 where the real climbing
begins. They will gradually climb up hwy 35 to the turn off to Cooper Spur
Mtn Resort. Here is where you can anticipate the racers to attack one
another as the road gets steeper as it nears the summit. Riders can expect
to climb nearly 7000 feet on this day alone. The course is amazing as
riders will start from the fertile farmland and orchards of the upper Hood
River Valley and proceed up into an Alpine setting at Cooper Spur. This
course is set right on the climatic transition zone.
Length 18.8 miles per lap
Elevation 1800 feet per lap
